For optimum performance and tool longevity, sink tools should be sharpened and measured every 300–500 linear feet, while larger wheels should be sharpened every 500-700 linear feet.  
 

Yes, presetting tools can improve tool life. On average, we see a 40–50% increase in tool life by presetting and sharpening tools. 

 

  • Presetting and sharpening extends tool life by 40-50% 

  • Without a presetter, a simple profile takes 2-3 hours (plus the time it takes to run a test piece), while a complex profile can take 6+ hours. With a presetter, it only takes fifteen minutes. Considering machine uptime in the United States is approximately $500 per hour, this is a significant cost savings. 

  • If the tools are perfectly set up and consuming the correct stock removal values, then you can attain faster CNC rates.
