Moulding Expo 2017: Avoid Collisions

The topic of process safety is one major focus of current discussions in production. In response to this interest, ZOLLER offers highly precise presetting and measuring machines specifically designed for the challenges of tool and mold construction, which involve a high level of part variation. We also offer efficient tool management solutions, and measuring programs in »pilot 3.0« such as »toolrealityCheck« for fast and guaranteed collision-free work.

Transparent Tool Organization
Tool and mold construction is often characterized by highly complex single component manufacturing. Because of this, new tools frequently need to be assembled based on individual parts. Transparent tool organization is indispensable for ensuring this process functions efficiently. With the z.One central tool database and TMS Tool Management Solutions, ZOLLER combines virtual and real tool data, ensuring that the right data is available everywhere and at all times: from the CAD/CAM area to the machine. A clearly defined tool assembly process, with single components in parts lists in the tool management system, forms the basis for programming a realistic milling strategy followed by simulation. ZOLLER offers interfaces to all current CAM systems, making separate storage of tool data in the CAM system unnecessary. Even if your company uses more than one CAM system, these systems can be connected in parallel without any additional work required. However, practical experience shows this isn’t enough to solve all the challenges involved. Programmed target tool data often doesn’t match actual measured data. The »toolrealityCheck« measuring program solves this problem.

Avoid Collisions
This measuring program facilitates a fast tool collision test by checking whether the real tool contour corresponds to the tool used in the original simulation. It does so by mapping the real actual tool contour on the rotating tool, in order to reflect a real processing situation. This process ensures collisions are avoided.

As Simple as That
The user only needs to enter the storage location for the desired target tool contour. The measuring program automatically approaches the starting point and measures the entire tool contour while the tool rotates, corresponding to real conditions. Then the program displays a target/actual comparison and the results of the collision test. “Green” means “go” for processing, “red” means “Warning, collision!” – making the program clear, fast, and immediately understandable to everyone!

Everything from a Single Supplier
From tool presetting and measuring to specialized measuring programs to collision testing and interfaces to all current CAM systems, ZOLLER offers solutions based on a central tool database and all from a single source - a key advantage for users.
