GrindTec 2016: Prepare today for the market of tomorrow with ZOLLER

ZOLLER presents extensive product portfolio and numerous innovations at GrindTec 2016. Whether tool manufacturer or grinding company; whether measuring individual parameters or handling complex measuring tasks – ZOLLER presents its extensive measuring technology solutions portfolio at the GrindTec 2016 on 160 m2. ZOLLER has been well-known for innovative solutions for many years and this is another chance for visitors to see numerous innovations and further developments on display. Over the last years, ZOLLER has put great effort into developing the product range for tool measurement technology and has further extended its portfolio for process-oriented measuring (pom) as well as for highly complex complete measuring tasks in quality assurance.

Extensive measurement technology portfolio
ZOLLER has brought sophisticated measurement technology out of the measurement rooms right to the production floor. The »pom« series enables executing measurement tasks where they are required: directly in the incoming goods area, next to the grinding machine or in quality assurance. Universal measuring machines such as »smarTcheck«, »genius« or »threadCheck« offer simple solutions to even the most complex measuring tasks. With its high-end measuring machine »titan«, ZOLLER sets a new standard – fast and easy complete measuring of precision tools including cutting edge preparation measurement with a single system!

Enabled for the 'smart factory' of the future
All ZOLLER systems satisfy the increasing requirements regarding 100% inspection, gapless documentation and traceability, regardless of the solution employed. This forms the basis for industry 4.0 and 'smart factories' of the future: consolidation of all tool data in a centralized database, process-reliable data exchange between machines and, using the automation solution »roboSet«, even the option to fully automate quality assurance.

From measurement device to grinding machine with GDX
Long awaited and now on display at GrindTec: The open GDX data interface (Grinding Data Exchange) for designing and manufacturing precision tools is used for control-specific data exchange with grinding machines from all reputable manufacturers. Programming software, grinding machines and ZOLLER measuring machines can communicate with each other thanks to a uniform GDX data structure. The GDX file contains geometric data of the grinding wheel, the tool and the blank as well as measuring instructions.

Extension of the »pom« series: new inspection device »pomMicroScope«
The »pom« series for process-oriented measuring that was introduced in 2011 and has built a worldwide reputation for itself since has been extended by an additional solution: The »pomMicroScope« is designed for measuring and inspecting flat components as well as molding and turning plates while being suitable for shop floor use. This enables measuring all kinds of inner and outer contours as well as resulting geometrical properties (circles, angles, lengths, distances, etc.). »pomMicroScope« features three CNC-controlled axes, transmitted and incident lighting as well as easiest operation due to smart software. Operation of ZOLLER devices has always been easy and this is no exception: All parts on the machine table can be automatically measured with a single click thanks to the 'one-button-application'. This is enabled by a navigation and measurement camera, a large measurement range with freely defined measuring tasks as well as automatic detection of component heights. »pomMicroScope« uses two camera systems, one of which processes images using transmitted and incident light while a navigation camera detects the component position on the measuring table. Simply position – measure with a single mouse click – output log – done.

New software module for »pomBasic«: Regrinding
The new ZOLLER software module for wear measurements finally enables economical regrinding processes. The ZOLLER tool inspection device »pomBasic« was introduced in 2013 and is now successfully being used all over the planet. Thanks to this new 'regrinding module', it can now also be used as an electronic caliper gauge for any precision tools to be reground. The tools are checked for wear and their dimensions are measured prior to the grinding process. This is done in a user-guided manner, which makes it fast and safe. The wear characteristics determined this way are allocated to a corresponding pallet location and thus form the basis for machining during the regrinding process. Thanks to the data exchange with the grinding machine, data does no longer have to be entered in the controller manually – enabling fast, process-reliable and error-free transmission. The fact that regrinding is henceforth only done as required by actual wear saves time and money while maximizing tool service life.

New automation solution »roboSet 2«
The version »roboSet 2« of the smart automation solution for tool measurement »roboSet« now features a significantly more compact and space-saving design. Furthermore, it can be coupled with the universal measuring machines »genius« or »titan« and fitted with laser or ultrasound cleaning upon request. Thanks to a multi pallet system and the associated larger number of tools, this smart automation solution is now capable of covering even larger series in unmanned quality assurance or production processes, while its new double gripper makes it faster at the same time.

ZOLLER TMS Tool Management Solutions for grinding wheels
The new grinding wheel management package enables systematic and efficient management as well as measurement of grinding wheels. This ensures not only precise measurements but also seamless provision of any grinding wheel data required in the manufacturing process. The ZOLLER »elephant« technology for grinding wheels enables fully automatic measuring of entire FEPA grinding wheel packages at the push of a button by scanning the 3D contour without any data input. This process measures all grinding wheel parameters such as diameter, angle, flange offset and corner radius and clearly displays them in the input dialog of the »pilot 3.0« image processing measuring program. The structure of a grinding wheel package is reproducibly documented in a parts list. Measurement macros for the individual grinding wheel types according to the FEPA standard are included by default. Availability is visible at any time due to connected storage systems.

Ready for 4.0 – you and your customers
Users of ZOLLER products are well-equipped for future developments. For Industry 4.0 to reach the shop floor, manufacturing plants not only need top-notch physical tools in the machines but also their digital twins for work preparation. Therefore, ZOLLER does not only offer solutions for 100% inspection and documentation of physical tools but also solutions for generating digital twins according to DIN 4000. This enables tool manufacturers as well as grinding and sharpening companies to offer their customers genuine added value, while ensuring they are prepared for the requirements of tomorrow.
